The three best questions to ask to get to know a new colleague

I have used these three questions over and over again to establish rapport and connect with new colleagues. These are great for getting to know someone quickly and with substance, whether a new employee or business partner.

1. What was your number one accomplishment last year that you are most proud of?

2. What do you hope to accomplish this year?

3. How can I help?

The questions are short and the answers are often much longer and invite collaboration.

Also, the answers help you to understand what is important to the colleague - what are they passionate about.

Lastly, and you must mean it, you are committing to being a good boss, mentor, coach, partner and trusted colleague.
